For parents and carers of 0-5 years olds in London’s N16.
If you’re a mum, dad, nanny, childcarer, or any one who works with pre-schoolers, and live or work Stoke Newington then you’re probably used to finding out what’s on for kids, plus yourself, via word of mouth. Of course nothing beats getting out and about and meeting other locals so this site aims to be an online ‘word-of-mouth’ noticeboard fuelled and maintained by Stoke Newington locals.
You do not need to register to read the site.
You only need to register if you want to add a listing, or be included on the the monthly email updates.
Email updates
If you would like to be included on emails that let you know all the listings that have been added, updated or have expired then please register. Mum will compile the updates when she gets a chance, so you certainly won't be bombarded with emails.
Where does Stoke Newington start and end?
Stoke Newington hardly finishes at Newington Green, even though officially it turns into Islington. We’re not dogmatic about street boundaries, just use your common sense. Keep in mind people will probably be walking with babes in buggies. Also some activities aren’t available in Stoke Newington, for example a cinema, so the the Rio in Dalston (with its magnificent Parents and Babies Club) is included.
Guidelines
Keep it local to Stoke Newington N16. Keep descriptions short. Do not blatantly advertise unrelated services. Positive recommendations are welcome. Negative comments about what you have experienced are also handy, so long as they are delivered constructively and politely — this is a public site after all. So please, please, please no defamatory comments.
Who ‘owns’ a listing?
It is not necessaily an organisation or activity's ‘owner’ who has uploaded the listing. This is a community fed information exchange and the listing could have been uploaded by a member of the public.
Expiry
Each post will have an expiry date. Hopefully this will ensure that the information is kept up to date. If you own a listing you will be sent an email a few weeks before the listing is due to expire to give you the opportunity to re-list it, otherwise it will just disappear. Even though each listing has an expiry date if it is your first time going along to a group it might be wise to check that it’s still on at the time/day stated before you get those triplets dressed and in their buggy.
This is not a blog site
Mums+ Stoke Newington is not a blog site. Rather than have you sitting at your computer 'talking' to people who only live a couple of streets away we want to tell you what’s on and then get you out and about. If you’re keen on blogs go to www.mumsnet.com
If you want to get in touch with other local mums directly join the very friendly facebook group 'Stokey Mums'.
Are you pregnant?
Mums+ Stoke Newington launched in August 2008 specifically to enable mothers (especially new ones) and carers to take advantage of all the, at times, invisible activities that are going on in Stoke Newington. Not everyone wants to go searching for things to do when caring for a new born is proving challenge enough. For pregnancy related stuff there is a prenatal category in the Activity drop down menu in the Things to do section, also there is a prenatal category in Groups. There is scope to extend the site to include a section for pregnant locals so they can contact each other and have a support network when their own babies arrive. If you'd like to see this feature email mum@mumsplus.com
